By applying for this permit, the property owner, tenant, plumber and propane handler agree to abide by all applicable laws and regulations, including all building and plumbing codes, and the code of the Village of Ocean Beach, including the following:

  1. No rental permits will be granted without a complete application, all required work completed, and a final approved inspection.
  2. All tanks shall be on a firm foundation, not soil, sand or gravel. Decay resistant wood decks are acceptable but must be checked periodically.
  3. All tanks shall be anchored securely to resist flotation and tipping due to high winds. Do not use chains that may scratch the protective coating/paint off the tank and compromise the corrosion protection or the valve stems.
  4. All tanks shall have 6 feet vertical clearance from all electrical lines.
  5. All exchange tanks shall be located no closer than 3 feet to any vents or windows. On site fillable tanks require 5 feet.
  6. All exchange tanks shall be located no closer than 5 feet from ignition sources such as electrical disconnect switches, air conditioners (including window) and condenser units, direct vent intake and exhaust. On site fillable tanks require 10 feet clearance.
  7. Shutoffs within 6 feet of each appliance.
  8. Underground gas piping minimum 12” deep.
  9. There shall be a flexible pipe at the connection to the tank(s). Maximum length 60”.
  10. Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing CSST shall be sleeved, electrically bonded to ground and properly secured.
  11. Fillable tank life is 12 years from date of manufacture. Afterward, tanks shall be recertified by the supplier via a hydro test or approved equal. Tanks shall be visually checked by a qualified person every year in the field nevertheless.
  12. Label servicer name on tanks.
  13. All abandoned tanks shall be removed from the site and disposed of appropriately ASAP.
  14. Pressure test required at inspection. Valves to be opened to avoid damage.
  15. Permit expires upon new ownership or tenancy of the property or building.
  16. This permit does not pertain to BBQ propane tanks.
  17. This permit is calendar year only.
