Applications must be submitted to the Village Clerk’s Office a minimum of twenty-one (21) days before the Block Party event.

Village Code §67-24(A)

The Village President shall be authorized to issue a Permit for the temporary closure of Public Property for an approved Block Party.
At least twenty-one (21) days before the commencement of any block party, an Application of such permit shall be filed with the Village Clerk by a bona fide resident, who is at least 18 years of age, of the neighborhood conducting the Block Party.

Village Code §67-25(C)

A Block Party Permit shall be approved, conditionally approved or denied, contingent upon the conditions specified in Village code Section 67-6 and subsections 1-7, within in five (5) business days after receiving a completed Applications. If the Application is denied or conditionally approved, the Applicant shall be advised in writing, of the grounds for denial or conditional approval. If the Village President relied on information other than that contained within the Application, the Applicant shall be advised of such information.

  • All residents on the block to be closed must read these rules before signing of acknowledgement. It is required that residents on the block agree to the party and sign said acknowledgement before permission is granted.
  • The block party must not start before 10:00 a.m. and must end by 10:00 p.m.
  • Sponsors of the party are responsible for clean-up of the area immediately following the event.
  • Reasonable noise levels must be maintained at all times.
  • If street closure intersects into another town, the applicant must notify the other town and request permission.
  • No alcoholic beverages may be sold or consumed on public property.
  • All barricades must be provided by the South Orange Police Department.
  • The Township of South Orange Village is to be held harmless in the event of any injuries or damages resulting from block party.
  • During block parties, no obstructions may be placed in the street, which could impede the entrance of emergency vehicles. Anything placed in the street must be easily and immediately removed in the event of any emergency.

By signing below, I hereby certify and affirm that I am a bona fide resident, who is at least eighteen (18) years of age, of the neighborhood conducting the Block Party, and that a majority of the residents on any street or block(s) for the proposed Block Party have been notified and approved of the proposed Block Party.
