Permit Requirement Breakdown by Permit Type

Type 1 Permit

  1. Bonfires;
  2. The use of a torch or flame-producing device to remove paint from, or seal membrane roofs on, any building or structure;
  3. The occasional use of any non-residential occupancy other than Use Groups F, H, or S for group overnight stays of persons over 2½ years of age;
  4. Individual portable kiosks or displays erected in a covered mall for less than 90 days;
  5. The use of any open flame or flame-producing device for public gatherings;
  6. Welding or cutting operations except where approved by the fire official;
  7. The possession or use of explosives or blasting agents;
  8. The use of open flame devices in non-fire service training;
  9. The occasional use of multipurpose rooms with occupancy of 100 or more;

Type 2 Permit

  1. Bowling lane resurfacing involving flammable materials;
  2. Fumigation or insecticide fogging;
  3. Carnivals and circuses using enclosed structures;
  4. Covered mall activities involving kiosks, open flame, or fuel-powered equipment;
  5. Outdoor LP-gas cylinder storage.

Type 3 Permit

  1. Industrial processing ovens or furnaces;
  2. Wrecking yards and junk yards;
  3. Fireworks storage or discharge.

Type 4 Permit

  1. Large compressed gas storage;
  2. Cryogenic liquid production or storage;
  3. Flammable or combustible liquid storage;
  4. Hazardous material storage;
  5. Magnesium processing exceeding 10 pounds per day.
